Trauma
Trauma refers to the emotional and psychological response to distressing and overwhelming experiences, past and present, that exceed an individual's ability to cope effectively. It can arise from various sources, such as physical or emotional abuse, loss and grief, witnessing violence, chronic stress or neglect.
Trauma is a deeply distressing experience that can have significant effects on our mental and emotional well-being. Individuals react differently to trauma; for some, it may manifest as anxiety, loss of control, anger, and defensiveness. Others may find themselves slipping into a state of depression, intensifying the initial stress and exacerbating the issue.
Counselling has proven to be highly effective in addressing these trauma-related symptoms. In fact, it is the preferred treatment method and has shown to be more effective in both the short and long term compared to other methods such as the use or prescribed drugs
